General Mathematics: Limitations to Career Opportunities?

Shaikh Gulafroze for BeyondHeadlines

It’s apt time that we realise the fact that emphasis on General Maths at the school level is indeed on obstruction for numerous students as it closes the doors to study of challenging courses and formulating a bright, prosperous career for themselves in this fast paced and competitive world.

It has been observed & marked that there is a strong favour for offering General Maths in Class IX in order to secure a good percentage which in turns enhances the position of school in this world of cut throat competition. At the initial stages the hindrances are not felt but as a student enters the world of Higher Secondary Education, to his amazement he realises that now in order to offer Maths in class XI, he will have to appear for an examination in the month of October for Special Maths, class X which not only increases his/her stress levels but also causes mental trauma to some & anxiety to others. He also learns that unless & until he clears this exam it will not be possible for him to pursue courses like Engineering, Graduation which are here to mould ones future for bright prospects.

The CET Examination & other entrance examinations open new vistas to student to enter the medical, engineering, pharmacy courses for which knowledge of Higher Maths is a must for problem solving, for that matter even courses like B.C.A, B.B.A, B.Sc. (Physics), B.C.S. to name a few can become accessible and easily understood only with the basics of Higher Maths.

In this world of information, vast knowledge offering General Maths certainly blocks the passage of enhancing one’s level of achievements & a few examples in the real life can be cited through those who have missed some golden opportunities in their lives.

Therefore it’s time now that the parents awaken, rise up to the occasion and help their children to grab a wand that would lighten their future, to become outstanding, confident individuals by pursuing the study Higher Maths at the school level.
