Is Woman Being Idealized for Pleasure?

S. M. Azhar for BeyondHeadlines

Role of female as an item girl is taking precedence over being appreciated as an artist.

Women rights around the world are an important indicator to understand the global well-being of woman and the program of a better social system.

A major global women rights treaty was ratified by majority of world’s nations just a few decades ago. Yet, despite the success of women empowerment, numerous issues still exist ranging from cultural, political, economic and axial areas of life of a woman. The most striking issue which remains unsolved is “IS WOMAN BEING IDEALISED FOR PLEASURE” on the name of women empowerment?

We have seen in the recent times female modeling is being fertilized than that of male. According to Forbes: A top male model may take home anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000 annually. But few years back, top earning model Gisli Bundchen earned $25 million which is 50 times the high end of the range top earning male models. Even 10th top earning male model Carlou Marphy earned 3 million dollars. It reflects that the female modeling is paid much higher than her male counterpart for displaying herself.

Movies with item number songs and obscene scenes are increasing immensely. Even theatre actresses are asked for intimate scenes. Girls in the colleges and universities are asked to perform an item numbers on the annual functions and various other ceremonies. Role of female as an item girl is taking precedence over being appreciated as an artist.

Recent Delhi gang rape case led to many protests, many debates and public discussions. Mostly the minutes of the debates and discussions were that; a woman should be given right to free sex and a right to have any dress code.

A memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister collectively by various human rights organizations demanding the implementations of various laws for the protection of woman. “Right to reproductive” was one of the rights demanded. This right imbibes a right to have free sex and right to carry an abortion and many other things.

But the question that arises in the minds of various intellectuals is “if a woman is given right to have free sex and then carry an abortion without any query then isn’t she being empowered as tool for sexual pleasure. Thus woman is being encouraged for nudity and immorality. Another glaring aspect of this same world where we see a woman is being outraged in the field of academics, science, and research.

According to International Labor Organization, woman graduates are being discriminated for research in United States as per Yale University study. Recently Iran banned woman from studying in various critical fields such as nuclear physics and electrical engineering. Chinese institutes have set higher entry grades for woman in science than that of their male counter parts. These are miniature example of gender bias.

I want to conclude by saying that the importance of women rights in right aspects such that they will lead to preservation of her prestige and strength as an individual should not be ignored nor underestimated so that there is healthy development of woman in particular and whole society in general.
